This is my road through the journey of my life.

Cultural Festival

My sister and I were dropped off at school for the big Wednesday night performance. I waited for the class to open and I sat with my friends outside. When it finally opened, I got my clothes and put them in my bag then made bracelets, a necklace and a halo out of glowsticks. We got given 20 each and our Cultural festival teacher brought us a hat  which I chose the black one. We were wearing black clothes for the American pop dance group and we were wearing something black for the Maori group too. Which reminded me, I had to get ready for the Maori group because we were up first on stage.

I ran to my classroom where the Maori group were getting ready for the big show. We were all nervous. I slid into my black dress and my teacher helped me put my puipui on. I pulled my hair into a tight ponytail and also tucked some feathers in my hair tie. I also applied black lipstick and the girls were given ferns for onstage. We all held hands and said a karakia to help us be confident and do well then it was up to the hall. We all linked arms and walked onstage.

First, the school sang the national anthem and then the greeting song. Then all eyes were on us. Asia started the Nga Iwi E waiata then we repeated after her. After that we done the poi and the boys got to do their haka. I called out kei te poi which means ‘grab your poi’. The song was Kotahitanga and we did the routine we had practised with the poi. The boys came forward and did their haka while the girls slowly moved back. It was an amazing performance.

The rest of the groups performed in the order of Chinese, Tongan/Fijian, Scandinavian, American pop and the Samoan group. I was in the American pop group and we were dancing to the song Happy by Pharrell Williams. Our group was after the break so I got me some chips and a drink. We practised so hard and I think our performance was great. Everyone clapped and cheered for all the groups and we all had a good night. It was awesome.

Playing football

Yesterday Giselle, Deijahn and I played football at the school playground. First Giselle ran fast. She kicked the ball to Deijahn and Deijahn ran fast. She then kicked the ball to me. I ran fast and the ball went flying into the goal.

The clown story

I knew I couldn’t trust that statue at the end of the hallway. It was on my nerves every minute of the day. It’s two eyes were following my every move and in the corner of my eye, I’m sure it moved once. The words ‘Watch out, I’m coming’ were stuck in my head. I heard someone or something whispering them while I lay awake at night. And now look what happened, I should of got rid of it a long time ago.
“Maisy, help me”, shouted my mum, I had to always help her with the washing, dishes and keeping the house tidy. Why couldn’t my big brother help me, he was always sitting on that touch screen device. Dad was 0n a tour around the world for his job. He left a week ago and that’s when the clown had arrived in the mail. I think dad ordered it but I hated it, it gave me the creeps and sent a shiver down my spine. Mum was having a baby so me and my weird brother had to be very helpful around the house. I done most of the chores. But that one week when I was cleaning the room at the end of the hall, I  noticed the clown.
“Maisy”, I heard my name being whispered. I thought it was just my brother trying to scare me, he knew I didn’t like the clown. But he was in his room which was on the other side of the lounge, not in the hallway. I walked out of the room and saw that the clown had disappeared. Then I walked into the lounge and found that my mum had gone. “Mum”, I called out, “Max”, even my brother wasn’t answering. Maybe he was just ignoring me or he didn’t hear me, ‘yeah right’. \ checked his room and, strangely, he wasn’t there. “Hello”, I was now feeling scared. And in the corner of my eye, there it was, the clown statue.  Everything went black.

Science tech

My ears were filled with laughter and shouting. The noise didn’t stop me from all the excitement in me though. I had been wanting to learn more about science and this was just the start. We met with our science teacher, whose name was Mrs Gowith and we were seated at tables which were going to be our permanent groups.

First we needed to listen to instructions, obviously, so we knew what to do. We started our first experiment, which was putting colors into milk. We had to observe what was happening when we added dish washing liquid. Before adding anything, we had to predict what would happen. We then practiced lighting a meth burner with a match and how to suffocate the fire/put it out. Then we had to burn a piece of paper and put it out with a cloth. That was our task for the next week we went tech.

It was the same the next week we went. We lined up and sat in our usual spots. Today's experiment was with fire, just the same thing we did last week. But when it came to my turn, something really frightening happened. Instead of placing the paper on the table, it flicked and landed on the carpet and it rebounded off Agnes’ lap. I was terrified and tears trickled in my eyes, it had frightened me. I had to be more careful around fire.

The last activity for the day was with ice and water. We had to see what happened when we put two ice cubes into warm/hot water. Then we had to check the temperature and record it from before we  put ice cubes in and when we added the ice cubes. Then we done the same with cold water. It was funny because the temperature rose instead of going down. We then packed up and walked to the bus. Maybe I could try those experiments at home.

The rain and hail

“Goodnight everyone”, I said as I made my way to bed. It was raining really hard and there was hail. The hailstones were pattering against our window and it made it hard to get to sleep. I thought I’d skip through channels on T.V and see what was on. After about half an hour, I finally drifted off to sleep.

I awoke with a start because I could feel wet drips on my head. There was pitch black around me and it was cold. As I hopped off the uncomfortable mattress, I could see nothing but I managed to escape the empty room without falling. I carefully went down the stairs. There were leaks in the roof and it was raining really hard. There was something weird about the rain but I couldn’t quite figure it out. Maybe that was the reason no one was around. I was outside and it was dark, but I quickly went into the big apartment because it was pouring down. I felt dizzy, a hailstone must have knocked me unconscious. I could just see a figure of ice the size of a tennis ball.

I woke up in a much more different place. This place was a bit cozier, with a fireplace and more light. I could still hear the pattering of raindrops outside. ‘Why was it always raining’, I thought to myself. There was still no sign of anyone and I wondered why I was here. There was dripping in the bathroom. At first I was scared but then I just remembered that it was raining. I went to the door and finally saw a light, it must have been a car. The light got really bright, my eyes felt like they were burning. Suddenly, it all stopped and I woke up.

It was all a dream. It was pouring with rain outside and my head was a little sore. I must have hit it on the wall, maybe that was why a big hailstone had knocked me unconscious in my dream. And my sister had turned the light on and it was shining bright on my face. It was time to get read for school ‘What a dream’, I thought to myself. It felt real and everything that had happened in real life was put into a dream. Hmmm weird!

The zoo

I thought Tuesday was going to be another average day but instead we went to the zoo. After hopping off the motorway and turning onto the road the zoo was on, we couldn’t find a parking until what seemed like a whole day. We got a good parking spot, right across the road. As fate would have it these holidays, it had been raining and fortunately today was one of the first sunny days. However, despite the sun, it was still chilly.

After we paid and walked through the entrance, a worker asked if we wanted to take a free photo.  It really turned out to be a trick question - a gimmick!  Oh yes we got free photos taken but then, can you believe it, we had to buy it! Anyway, off we went to explore..

First we went to see the water dragons. They looked like lizards with wings and scaly skin, but then we got bored because they didn’t move a muscle. Next we went to see the red panda but despite closely scanning the entire setting, but we couldn’t find it.  After approximately two minutes we were about to give up when a rustling noise alerted us and at that point we spotted it high up in the tree.  The giant saucer  eyes of the Panda looked down at us, the kind of stare that you can feel when you walk away. Next we went to see the meerkats. The design for viewing these interesting creatures was formed by concrete tunnels where people were able to pop their heads up and get a closer look of the meerkats in their natural habitat - or at least one that had been constructed to represent that.  Seeing them munch away at the nibbles they found, was enough to remind us that  we had not eaten lunch.  Some hot chips, sandwiches and some treats soon provided us with the energy needed to continue our zoo adventure.

After lunch we went back to the entry and followed the path leading off in the opposite direction to the one we had already been. It was very different.  One foot in front of the other, with both excitement and some hesitance, we went to see the wild animals, like lions, giraffes, hippos and more. Exploring and looking at all the wild animals was like being in the wilderness. The giraffes were really tall, they ate green leaves from a towering tree. The lions lazed about like someone sun bathing in the sun this was certainly not like the tigers we saw, they were in walking around like they were guarding a chamber of gold. Entering the elephant house, I was a bit disappointed to find the enclosure empty, we couldn’t spot any elephants but we saw it come out to take it’s daily exercise. My dad bought us some ice creams to watch the show. I got plain chocolate, my favourite.

We visited the rest of the animals. After visiting the kiwi’s, we met with the elephant who was going for it’s walk. Everyone took photos while it stopped to eat. A few other animals we saw were tortoises and alligators. The last thing we went to see were the spiders. There were two big ones and I couldn’t imagine what would happen if they got out of their glass cases. We took my little brother to the park and then we were off. My dad decided to buy the photo of us.

Stations of the cross

Why are the Stations of the Cross important?
It is important because we remember the time Jesus sacrificed himself for our sins because he loves us. He done this so we could go to heaven to live with God when we die.

How do you feel?

I am learning to use appropriate structure when writing an explanation.
Feelings
Feelings can be shown in everyone around the world in many different ways.
Most people get angry which looks like someone is frowning. This can be shown by getting red in the face or you can even start to shake or shiver while clenching your fists. This can cause fights and people will start hitting and kicking each other. They can also use inappropriate language.

The actions that are made when people are sad are when they start to cry because someone has hurt them or they are either sad about a bad problem that has happened. This looks like people getting red eyes that are watery and you often see them sitting alone.

When people are happy or feeling they are usually smiling and waving at everyone. They usually say “hello” and greet others kindly. This looks like people jumping around or cheering and also having having fun.

However when people are scared they get goose bumps and everyone says their hair stands on end. This looks like shaking and chattering teeth, like how your cold and you shake. Some people may call Help!, because something or someone is trying to hurt them. It also happens when you get nervous.

Even  more feelings are established in what people say do or act. But most of the time everyone shows happiness and that is how we all get along.

My poetry twist

I had to use noun's , adjectives and verbs to make a diamond.
